How we counted
About the Business Days Calculator
Deadlines described in business days rarely match a simple calendar-day count. This calculator counts working days between dates or moves a date forward or backward while excluding the weekends and selected holidays that should not count.
The phrase “business day” is not universal. Some organizations work Monday to Friday, others include Saturday and holiday rules differ by country, industry and agreement. Use the calendar options that match the deadline you are actually interpreting.
How to Use the Business Days Calculator
- Enter the starting and ending dates, or choose the add/subtract mode if you are projecting a deadline.
- Confirm which weekdays count as working days in your situation.
- Include or exclude holidays using the available calendar options rather than assuming every public holiday is automatically known.
- Check whether the starting day itself should count because contracts and service-level rules can define that differently.
How the Calculation Works
The calculator walks through the calendar interval and counts only dates that match the selected working-day rules. Weekend days and configured excluded holidays are skipped rather than subtracted from a simple total afterward.
When adding business days, the calendar advances one date at a time until the requested number of qualifying working days has been reached. This avoids treating a week as a fixed five-day block when holidays fall inside it.
Worked example
Business Days Calculator Worked Example
Ten business days from Monday
With a Monday-to-Friday workweek and no holidays, five business days take you to the following Monday if the starting Monday is not counted. Another five working days take you to the next Monday, so 10 business days span 14 calendar days in that example.

Understanding Your Business Days Calculator Result
The result is only correct for the working-day definition you selected. For legal, banking or shipping deadlines, verify whether the governing rule counts the starting date, ending date and local holidays in the same way.

Assumptions and Limitations
- The selected weekend pattern matches the relevant organization.
- Excluded holidays are complete for the date range.
- Time-of-day cutoffs are not represented by a date-only result.
Practical tip
Using This Result in Practice
When a deadline is important, write down the counting rule alongside the date result. That makes it easier to explain why a calendar date differs from a simple “number of days from now” calculation.

If weekends and holidays should count normally, use the Days Between Dates Calculator instead.
For a calendar deadline that includes every day, use the Date Add or Subtract Calculator rather than a business-day rule.
Common questions
Business Days Calculator FAQ
Do business days include Saturday?
Often they do not, but there is no universal rule. Use the workweek definition required by the company, contract or jurisdiction involved.
Does the calculator automatically know every holiday?
Only holidays included by the selected calendar or entered in the tool can be excluded. Organization-specific closures may need to be handled separately.
Is the starting date counted as business day one?
That depends on the rule being applied. Many deadlines begin counting after the triggering date, but some processes include it. Check the governing wording.
