About the Pixels to Inches Calculator
Pixels to Inches Calculator converts digital pixel dimensions into physical inches using a specified pixel density. It is useful for print preparation, display sizing and understanding how the same image pixels translate into different physical sizes at different PPI values.
Pixels do not have an inherent physical size. Without a PPI or DPI assumption, a pixel count cannot be converted uniquely into inches.
How to Use the Pixels to Inches Calculator
- Enter the pixel dimension.
- Enter the intended pixels per inch.
- Calculate physical inches.
- Use the same PPI assumption for width and height when preserving image proportions.
How the Calculation Works
Inches = pixels ÷ pixels per inch.
The reverse is pixels = inches×PPI. For example, 3000 pixels at 300 PPI equals 10 inches, while the same 3000 pixels at 150 PPI equals 20 inches.
Worked example
Pixels to Inches Calculator Worked Example
2400 pixels at 300 PPI
Physical size = 2400÷300 = 8 inches.
Result guide
Understanding Your Pixels to Inches Calculator Result
The result is a mapping between digital pixels and physical length under the chosen density. Changing PPI changes print size without changing the original pixel count. The conversion is also useful in reverse when preparing artwork for a fixed physical size. A 6-inch print at 300 PPI needs 1,800 pixels along that dimension, while the same 6 inches at 150 PPI needs only 900 pixels.

Assumptions and Limitations
- PPI is positive and appropriate to the intended output.
- Pixels represent the image dimension being converted.
- No resampling is assumed during the conversion.
Practical tip
Using This Result in Practice
For print work, choose PPI from the print process and viewing distance first, then calculate inches. Starting with an arbitrary PPI can create a physical size that is not useful for the project.

Common questions
Pixels to Inches Calculator FAQ
How many inches is 3000 pixels at 300 PPI?
10 inches.
Can pixels be converted to inches without PPI?
No. A physical density assumption is required.
Does changing PPI change pixel count?
Not unless the image is resampled.
