About the Pizza Size Comparison Calculator
Pizza Size Comparison Calculator compares pizzas by actual circular area rather than diameter alone. It is useful for judging value because pizza area grows with the square of radius, so a modest increase in diameter can produce much more food.
Two small pizzas can sometimes have more or less area than one large pizza depending on their diameters. Comparing price per square inch or square centimetre gives a clearer value measure.
How to Use the Pizza Size Comparison Calculator
- Enter the diameter and price of each pizza.
- Calculate the area of each size.
- Compare total area and price per unit area.
- For multi-pizza deals, multiply area by quantity before comparing bundles.
How the Calculation Works
Pizza area = πr², where r is half the diameter.
Price per unit area = price ÷ pizza area. For multiple pizzas, total area = quantity × area of one pizza before dividing deal price by total area.
Worked example
Pizza Size Comparison Calculator Worked Example
12-inch pizza versus 16-inch pizza
12-inch area = π×6² ≈ 113.1 in². 16-inch area = π×8² ≈ 201.1 in². The 16-inch pizza has about 77.8% more area, not merely 33.3% more.
Result guide
Understanding Your Pizza Size Comparison Calculator Result
Diameter increases understate the increase in food area because area depends on radius squared. Price per area is therefore more informative than price per diameter.
Before you rely on the answer
Assumptions and Limitations
- Pizzas are approximately circular.
- Diameter refers to the edible pizza size.
- Crust width and topping differences are outside the simple area comparison.
Practical tip
Using This Result in Practice
If crust thickness differs greatly, compare usable topped area as a second scenario. A wide crust reduces topping area even when total pizza diameter is the same.

Common questions
Pizza Size Comparison Calculator FAQ
Why is a 16-inch pizza much larger than a 12-inch pizza?
Pizza area depends on the square of radius, not directly on diameter.
How do I compare pizza value?
Divide price by pizza area to get cost per square inch or square centimetre.
Can two small pizzas beat one large pizza?
Yes or no depending on diameters; calculate and add the circular areas before comparing.
