How we calculated it
About the Pressure Converter
Pressure Converter changes pressure values between units such as pascals, kilopascals, bar, psi and atmospheres. It is useful for tires, hydraulics, weather, gases and engineering specifications that use different unit systems.
Pressure readings may be absolute or gauge values. Unit conversion does not change that reference, so 30 psi gauge should not be interpreted as 30 psi absolute simply because the unit is converted.
How to Use the Pressure Converter
- Enter the pressure reading or specification.
- Identify its present pressure unit.
- Select the unit required by the gauge, manual or comparison.
- Convert while keeping the original gauge, absolute or differential reference unchanged.
How the Calculation Works
The converter maps the source value to a common pressure basis, typically pascals, and then converts to the target unit.
One pascal equals one newton per square metre. One standard atmosphere is 101,325 Pa, while 1 bar equals 100,000 Pa.
Worked example
Pressure Converter Worked Example
250 kPa to psi
250 kPa = 250,000 Pa. Using 1 psi ≈ 6,894.757 Pa, 250,000÷6,894.757 ≈ 36.26 psi.
Result guide
Understanding Your Pressure Converter Result
The numerical conversion is exact within the chosen constants, but safe operating limits still depend on whether the equipment specification uses gauge or absolute pressure. For gas or vacuum work, absolute zero pressure cannot be crossed, while gauge pressure can be negative relative to local atmosphere. Keeping that reference visible prevents a numerically correct unit conversion from being interpreted as an impossible absolute pressure.

Assumptions and Limitations
- Units follow the supported standard definitions.
- Pressure reference—gauge, absolute or differential—does not change during conversion.
- Temperature effects on gases are outside a pure unit conversion.
Practical tip
Using This Result in Practice
For tire or compressor work, confirm both the unit and the pressure reference before comparing a reading with a specification. A unit-correct number with the wrong reference can still be unsafe.

If you are deriving pressure manually from force and area, convert the area consistently with the Area Converter.
Common questions
Pressure Converter FAQ
What is 1 bar in pascals?
100,000 Pa.
What is standard atmospheric pressure?
101,325 Pa at the defined standard atmosphere.
Does converting psi to kPa change gauge pressure into absolute pressure?
No. Unit conversion preserves the pressure reference.
