Recipe Yield Calculator

Scale recipe ingredient quantities from original yield to a target yield

Your result will appear here.

About the Recipe Yield Calculator

Recipe Yield Calculator estimates how many servings or finished units a recipe produces and helps scale the batch when a different yield is needed. It is useful for kitchens where the original recipe quantity does not match the required number of portions.

Yield can be expressed as servings, pieces, finished weight or finished volume. The scaling method should use the same yield basis for the original and target batch.

How to Use the Recipe Yield Calculator

  1. Enter the original recipe yield.
  2. Enter the desired new yield.
  3. Calculate the scale factor.
  4. Multiply each ingredient by the same factor, then review ingredients such as spices, leavening or thickening agents that may need practical adjustment at very large scales.

How the Calculation Works

Recipe scale factor = desired yield ÷ original yield.

New ingredient quantity = original ingredient quantity × scale factor. If finished weight rather than servings is used, both original and desired yields should be entered on that weight basis.

Worked example

Recipe Yield Calculator Worked Example

Recipe yields 8 servings but 30 are needed

Scale factor = 30÷8 = 3.75. Each original ingredient is multiplied by 3.75 to produce the target batch mathematically.

Result guide

Understanding Your Recipe Yield Calculator Result

A factor of 3.75 preserves ingredient proportions under the simple model. Cooking vessel size, heating rate and evaporation can still change how a large batch behaves.

Assumptions and Limitations

  • Original and desired yields use the same definition.
  • Ingredient proportions can be scaled linearly for the intended range.
  • Process losses are reasonably consistent or adjusted separately.

Practical tip

Using This Result in Practice

For very large increases, scale in stages and verify seasoning near the end. Salt, spices and thickening can taste or behave differently when a small household recipe is multiplied many times.

Common questions

Recipe Yield Calculator FAQ

How do I scale a recipe from 8 to 12 servings?

Use a factor of 12÷8 = 1.5 and multiply each ingredient by 1.5.

Does every ingredient scale perfectly?

Not always at large batch sizes; seasoning, leavening and cooking process may need practical adjustment.

Can recipe yield be based on weight instead of servings?

Yes, as long as original and target yield use the same basis.
