How we calculated it
About the Revenue Per Square Foot Calculator
Revenue per square foot measures how much sales revenue a physical location generates relative to its selling or operating floor area. Retailers, restaurants and other space-based businesses use it to compare location productivity.
The square-foot denominator must be defined consistently. Selling area, gross leased area and total building area can produce very different results for the same store.
How to Use the Revenue Per Square Foot Calculator
- Enter revenue for the selected period.
- Enter the floor area under the chosen definition.
- Calculate revenue per square foot or square metre.
- Compare locations only when area definitions and time periods match.
How the Calculation Works
Revenue per square foot = revenue ÷ floor area.
Annual revenue is commonly paired with average or fixed selling area. If a location expanded or contracted during the year, a time-weighted average area may be more representative than the year-end size.
Worked example

Using This Result in Practice
Separate store-generated digital sales if they are not consistently attributed across locations. Otherwise one location can appear more space-efficient simply because more online revenue was credited to it.
