Cost per click
How we calculated it
About the CPC Calculator
Cost per click measures how much advertising spend is being paid, on average, for each recorded click. It is useful for comparing traffic-acquisition efficiency across campaigns, keywords and channels.
CPC does not tell you whether the clicks became customers. Cheap clicks can be poor value if conversion quality is weak.
How to Use the CPC Calculator
- Enter total advertising spend for the campaign.
- Enter the number of clicks generated in the same period.
- Calculate average CPC.
- Compare CPC with conversion rate and customer value before judging campaign quality.
How the Calculation Works
Average CPC = total advertising spend ÷ total recorded clicks. This spreads the campaign’s cost across all clicks even when individual auction prices differ from one click to the next.
For meaningful comparison, spend and click count must use the same campaign and period and follow the same click definition. CPC measures traffic acquisition cost at the click stage; conversion efficiency and customer value belong to later funnel metrics.
Worked example
CPC Calculator Worked Example
$1,800 spend and 900 clicks
CPC = $1,800÷900 = $2.00 per click.

Understanding Your CPC Calculator Result
A falling CPC can improve traffic efficiency, but business performance only improves if click quality remains strong enough to produce worthwhile conversions. When keyword or audience mix changes, average CPC can move even if bids stay constant. Segmenting CPC by campaign or intent can reveal whether the shift came from competitive pressure or from spending more on higher-value traffic.
Before you rely on the answer
Assumptions and Limitations
- Spend and click count cover the same campaign and time period.
- Clicks are measured consistently.
- Invalid-click adjustments and downstream conversion quality are outside the simple ratio.
Practical tip
Using This Result in Practice
Track CPC together with conversion rate. Cutting CPC by attracting less relevant traffic can increase acquisition cost rather than reduce it. CPC can also move because of auction competition rather than changes in your own campaign quality. Separate bid-environment changes from creative or targeting improvements before attributing every movement to optimization work.
